How to Complete Your Lab Tests
Simple Lab Testing Through BriefMD Medical Office
BriefMD Medical Office.
Patients complete lab testing in a simple, convenient, and organized way. Depending on your insurance and the type of lab order, your blood work may be completed through Quest Diagnostics, Ulta Lab Tests, or another approved laboratory service.
Our goal is to make sure your lab order is completed correctly, your results are received by your provider, and your care plan is updated after your results are reviewed.
Option 1: Labs Through Your Insurance
If you have active health insurance, BriefMD may send your lab order to an insurance-approved laboratory such as Quest Diagnostics or another in-network lab.
How This Works
-
Your BriefMD provider orders your labs.
-
BriefMD sends the lab order to the appropriate laboratory.
-
You schedule or walk in for your blood draw at the lab location.
-
The lab bills your insurance directly.
-
Results are sent back to BriefMD.
-
Your provider reviews the results.
-
BriefMD contacts you if follow-up is needed.
Important Notes
-
Please bring your insurance card and photo ID.
-
Some labs may require an appointment.
-
Your insurance may still charge a copay, deductible, or coinsurance.
-
BriefMD does not control insurance billing decisions.
Option 2: Self-Pay Labs Through Ulta Lab Tests
For patients without insurance, with high deductibles, or who prefer transparent pricing, BriefMD may assist with lab testing through Ulta Lab Tests.
How This Works

Before Going to the Lab

Bring your insurance card if using insurance.
-
Bring your printed lab requisition if using Ulta Lab Tests.
-
Follow fasting instructions if your test requires fasting.
-
Drink water unless instructed otherwise.

Fasting Instructions
Some labs require fasting, especially cholesterol, glucose, insulin, and metabolic testing.
If fasting is required:
-
Do not eat for 8–12 hours before your blood draw.
-
You may usually drink water.
-
Continue medications unless your provider tells you otherwise.
-
Ask BriefMD if you are unsure whether fasting is needed.
When Will Results Be Available?
Most lab results return within a few business days.
Some specialized tests may take longer, sometimes 7–10 business days.
Once BriefMD receives your results:
-
Your provider reviews them.
-
The care team contacts you if abnormal results require action.
-
Your provider may schedule a follow-up visit if needed.
-
Results may be released to your patient portal after review.
Important Patient Reminders
-
Do not assume “normal” results until your provider reviews them.
-
If you see abnormal results online, do not panic. Some results require clinical interpretation.
-
If symptoms worsen before results return, contact BriefMD or seek urgent care.
-
Lab requisitions may expire, so complete your labs as soon as possible.
-
Check your email spam or junk folder for lab confirmations.
